Qualifying Rounds

Angela Haynes, USA vs. Meng Yuan, CHN*
*Angela was defeated 7-5, 6-2

Round 1

Milagros Sequera, VEN vs. Elena Vesnina, RUS

Venus Williams - Withdrew*

*Venus withdrew from the Bausch & Lomb Championships on Saturday because she will be receiving treatment this week to resolve a medical issue.

"I have had great experiences at the Bausch & Lomb Championships and regret that I will not be participating this year," Williams said in a statement. "I look forward to being back on tour soon."

"The sun's shining and everything's green and the birds are chirping - and you're hitting the ball as hard as you can," Williams told the Times-Union during the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami. "It's just kind of a warm, fuzzy feeling about the event."

Venus will still have a chance to see the beauty of Amelia Island this year - if only briefly. She has agreed to come to Amelia Island Plantation one day this week for a news conference to promote the tournament, which she won in 2002. Her victory was a three-set comeback thriller against Justine Henin - a memory she counts among her favorites at Amelia Island.
