James Blake Bites The Dust In Round One Of The French Open

PARIS (AP) — James Blake has lost in the first round of the French Open to a qualifier making his Grand Slam debut.

The 15th-seeded Blake was upset 7-6 (6), 7-5, 6-2 on Tuesday by 93rd-ranked Leonardo Mayer of Argentina.

Blake has never been past the third round at Roland Garros. The American made more than twice as many unforced errors as Mayer.

Venus Williams and Gael Monfils Continue Acapulco Surge

American Venus Williams won her second straight three-set match on Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel. Venus defeated Agnes Szavay 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

In the semifinal round Venus will play Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic.



The very animated Frenchman Gael Monfils showed that he can get up!

Also reaching the semifinals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, Monfils was ahead in his match against Argentine Leonardo Mayer 6-3, 6-7 (3), 4-1, when Mayer retired due to cramps.

Monfils is scheduled to play another Argentine, Jose Acasuso, in the semifinals.

An American And A Frenchman Progressing In Mexico

Both American Venus Williams and Frenchman Gael Monfils have advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL.

Monfils defeated Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 7-6 (3), 6-7 (2), 6-1. His next scheduled opponent is Argentine Leonardo Mayer.

Venus defeated Hungarian Greta Arn 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Her next scheduled opponent is Hungarian Agnes Szavay.
