From all appearances American Scoville Jenkins was definitely getting his clay court game on in his match against German Daniel Brands. Unfortunately it was not enough to claim another victory in the second round of Roland Garros qualifying.

Jenkins was defeated by Brands 7-5, 1-6, 6-3.

On the women's side, American Angela Haynes was also handed a severe ousting by Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova 6-1, 6-2.

Gaël Monfils is still hopeful of overcoming the inflamed patella tendons which have kept him off court for the entire European clay season. He came through a light training session on Thursday afternoon on Suzanne Lenglen court accompanied by his coach, Roger Rasheed. The world No. 11 was moving around very gingerly however, and has yet to decide whether he will be able to defend the points he won here last year when reaching the semi-final. He has asked the tournament organizers for the latest possible start – next Tuesday, therefore – to give himself every chance of being able to play.

Monfils And Wawrinka Take On Mickey Mouse At Disneyland Paris

Black Tennis Pro's Gael Monfils, Mickey Mouse and Stanislas Wawrinka at Disneyland Paris

Visitors to Disneyland Paris today had a big surprise when they saw Mickey Mouse playing a game of doubles with invited children against professional tennis players Gael Monfils and Stansilas Wawrinka.

The court itself was a little short and had quasi-official dimensions, but that didn’t matter when the children had such a great event.

Disneyland Paris invited 200 children from the French “Fête le Mur” association, founded by Yannick Noah, to participate in this more than unusual exchange.

The Fête le Mur association is set up in the heart of 25 under-privileged Urban Zones, allows the children of those neighborhoods to practice tennis, to train and perfect themselves, and some of them to later find a professional opening.

France, May 20 (Reuters)
- Gael Monfils was on the verge of withdrawing from the French Open on Wednesday because of a knee injury, he said. "If I had to decide today, the answer would be no," the world number 11, who reached the semi-finals at Roland-Garros last year, told a news conference after losing 6-4 6-0 to Marcos Baghdatis in an exhibition game.

"I clench my teeth but my knee is still hurting. I'll make my decision at the last minute. I have six days left as I have asked to play on Tuesday. I still believe a miracle will happen," he added.

According to French federation doctor Bernard Montalvan, the 22-year-old Monfils suffers from an inflammation of the kneecap which could require surgery and a long period of rehabilitation.
