Blake and Tsonga In Play At Paris Masters Today
Wednesday, October 31, 2007

American James Blake had a rough, but good start at the BNP Paribas Masters today. Blake defeated Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 6-7(3), 7(4)-6, 6-1. This win enables Blake to remain in contention for one of the two remaining spots in Madrid. Here's hoping!

Earlier in the day Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was not so fortunate. He went down in defeat to fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet 7-5, 7-6(3).

Are The Frenchmen Playing Tag? Tsonga Is It Today

Personally, I find this new saga of Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Sebastien Grosjean quite amusing! Lately they've been playing doubles together, and doing well I might add. It was Grosjean that knocked Tsonga out of the singles draw in Lyon last week and the two of them won the doubles title in the same tournament.
Turn around today and Tsonga knocks Grosjean out of the singles draw of the BNP Paribas Masters and the two of them win their doubles match against Allegro and Linstedt.
They should keep this up, it's entertaining!

Venus Williams Withdraws From WTA Year-End Championships At The Advice Of Her Doctor
Venus Williams, originally in seventh place in the Race to the Sony Ericsson Championships points standings, has been forced to withdraw. Following the incident of dizziness that she suffered at the US Open earlier this year, Venus underwent a series of tests, along with follow-up tests after returning from tournaments that she played in Asia in the fall, with her doctors' advice at this time to finalize the testing process and take a break from competitive play.
"This year has been a great one for many reasons," said the Wimbledon winner. "I am pleased that I finished the year in the top eight and in recent weeks I have remained optimistic about participating in the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships. Nevertheless, the accumulation of matches has taken its toll and I have received several medical opinions to delay my return to competitive tennis. As a result, I will miss the Sony Ericsson Championships. I look forward to playing in the New Year for what will hopefully be an even better 2008."
"This year's Sony Ericsson Championships will feature one of the very best fields in the tournament’s history, with so many compelling champions and rising stars," said Larry Scott, Chairman & CEO of the Tour.
