Alright... Alright... Donald Young's Rancid Tweet Has Come And Gone, Let The Guy Move Forward

Donald Young during first round play of 2011 Wimbledon Championships

American Donald Young, Jr. was not able to capitalize on Day 1 of his 2011 Wimbledon Championships experience, losing to fellow American Alex Bogomolov, Jr. 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Donald was certainly not alone, he left in the good company of all the other first round loss victims. The difference between them and the twenty-one-year-old Donald? They haven't recently taken to Twitter and unleashed a very, how shall I say... expressive opinion of their respective tennis federation.

If you follow tennis, you are well aware of the episode, its genesis, and the opinion of EVERYBODY with a microphone, a sports column, blog etc., as well as that of the United States Tennis Association (USTA). We've all chimed in, and short of being stripped of his citizenship, Donald has taken a very public lashing for the tongue lashing he gave. Accordingly, we all know that Karma is a bitch, and if Donald didn't know, he does now.

All of that said, IT'S OVA!!  There was no loss of life, no one has been deprived of their property, and we've all experienced a case of the oratorical runs, especially in our youth.

Let the Young man move forward; I'm sure if he could untweet that tweet, he would do so quick, fast and in a hurry. Give him a little bit of the Golden Rule, whether you think he extended it or not. Besides, is this how you'd want anyone to treat your barely legal son or daughter? Don't even think about it, you know you wouldn't.

Live and Let Live.

Congrats To Megan Moulton-Levy, Through Qualifying To Main Draw Of Wimbledon Doubles

Sunday, June 19, 2011

American Megan Moulton-Levy

Former William and Mary standout Megan Moulton-Levy, 26, and Lindsay Lee-Waters of Dunwoody, Ga., qualified for the Wimbledon women’s doubles draw in dramatic fashion.

They won two qualifying matches on grass courts in Roehampton, England, capped by a 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 8-6 triumph Saturday against Russians Nina Bratchikova and Valeria Savinykh.

The match was supposed to be played Friday but was rained out.

Moulton-Levy, who has concentrated on doubles recently, is ranked 111th on the WTA Tour computer in doubles and has been as high as 103. In part because she has played so few singles tournaments lately, she’s ranked just 1,500 in singles.

One of her best W&M moments came in doubles, when she and Kat Zoricic were the 2007 NCAA tournament runners-up.

Serena Williams Makes The Cut In People Magazine's Hottest Bodies 2011

Saturday, June 18, 2011

American Serena Williams, one of People Magazines "Hottest Bodies 2011"

Height: 5'9"
Weight: "I don't step on scales."

People:  When did you realize you're not built like most athletes?

I was 17, playing in the U.S. Open and this one lady said, "You need to wear a better bra." That's when it clicked for me that I was really curvy. A DD chest is not what you normally see in the locker room.

People:  What do you get the most compliments on?

It's all about my butt.  I like Brazilian-cut bikini bottoms in the back. Some people think its too small, but I'm like, "Whatever."

People:  Are you insecure about any areas?

Sometimes my stomach poufs out a little bit, and I feel like my legs aren't as tight as I like them to be.

People:  How do you feel when you're photographed on the beach in your bikini?

In the beginning it was weird, but I'm okay with it. I represent ladies who want to be healthy and not starve themselves.

BLACK TENNIS HISTORY: "The Definitive Word On The History Of Blacks In Tennis"

This photo is the property of the website "Black Tennis History," do not duplicate without permission

"Black Tennis History," is a new website that I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to share with you. If you are not yet aware of this site, I guarantee that your first visit will enlighten, educate and enrich your knowledge of the history of Blacks in tennis unlike it has been before.

From the website:

"This website chronicles the introduction of Blacks to tennis in 1890 and the creation of the governing body of Black Tennis, the American Tennis Association, which was established in 1916.

The history of Blacks in tennis is a rich and inspiring legacy that must be preserved. It chronicles the emergence of an elite black middle class a mere 40 years after slavery was abolished. This middle class spawned an organization (the American Tennis Association) in 1916 and in less than 50 years, produced 2 world champions in a sport previously unavailable to Blacks. This is one of the most remarkable feats in human history and should be illuminated as a beacon for all people to emulate.”

You will also be able to visit with the standout performers who have been inducted into the Black Tennis Hall of Fame, an organization created by Dale Caldwell, a New Jersey businessman. You can view rare photographs and playing histories of these individuals, including Althea Gibson and Arthur Ashe.

Why is this important? Because, until the lions have their own historians, tales of the hunt shall always glorify the hunter! African Proverb."

The Wimbledon Draw, Has Been Drawn - Let The Pursuit Of The Venus Rosewater Dish Begin!

 American Venus Williams, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2008 Wimbledon Ladies Champion

Serena Williams will return to Centre Court almost exactly 50 weeks after she won her fourth Wimbledon title, opening her 2011 campaign against France's Aravane Rezai.

Williams, seeded seventh after the withdrawal of Kim Clijsters, won the opening match of her comeback in Eastbourne before losing out to Vera Zvonareva in a repeat of last year's Championships final, and will be closely monitored when she plays her first match on Monday.

The former world No.1 has faced the talented Frenchwoman just once in competition, rallying from a set down to defeat the current world No.56 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the pre-Australian Open tournament in Sydney in 2010. And so Rezai will not be a cakewalk for the four-time Wimbledon Champion, especially given the latter's lack of match fitness.

American Althea Gibson, 1957 and 1958 Wimbledon Ladies Champion

Sitting alongside Williams in the top half of the draw is current world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki, who will open her grass court season against Spain's Arantxa Parra Santonja, the world No.107. Wozniacki, who comes into Wimbledon with 17 titles under her belt in what has still been a relatively short career, will once again be the focus of much attention on the lawns of SW19 as she attempts to win her first Grand Slam title.

But in order to do so, she will have to contend with Maria Sharapova, her opposite number in the top quarter of the draw. Viewed by many as a favourite for this year's title, Sharapova is deemed to have finally fully recovered from the shoulder injury that has blighted her for the past two years, and comes into Wimbledon fighting fit and full of confidence at what is one of her favourite Grand Slams. She opens against fellow Russian, world No.50 Anna Chakvetadze.

Should Sharapova triumph, she will face the winner of world No.77 Angelique Kerber against former junior Champion Laura Robson, awarded a wild card into The Championships this year. Fellow Brit Heather Watson, who broke into the top 100 last week, is also in the top half of the draw, meeting world No.64 Mathilde Johansson, as is British No.1 Elena Baltacha, who plays a qualifier. Emily Webley-Smith faces Klara Zakopalova.

American Serena Williams, 2002, 2003, 2009 and 2010 Wimbledon Ladies Champion

French Open champion Li Na joked that she would be forgotten in China if she doesn't do well at Wimbledon, and so she should be pleased at a first-round match up with world No.70 Alla Kudryavtseva. But danger lies in the prospect of a second round meeting with the in-form wild card Sabine Lisicki, quarter-finalist at The Championships in 2009, who won the warm-up event at the Edgbaston Priory Club last week.

Ana Ivanovic, who plays American Melanie Oudin, Marion Bartoli, who meets a qualifier, and Agnieszka Radwanska, who will face Olga Govortsova, are other notable names in the top half of the draw.

2010 finalist Zvonareva occupies the top spot in the bottom half of the draw, as the No.2 seed, and will open against talented American Alison Riske. The world No.118 broke onto the scene at last year's AEGON Classic in Edgbaston, qualifying and powering her way to the semi-finals, so could provide a brief speed bump for the Russian. Last year's surprise semi-finalist Tsvetana Pironkova is also in Zvonareva's section, as is five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, seeded at No.23. Williams meets Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan in the first round, with Britain's Katie O'Brien or the ageless Kimiko Date-Krumm a potential second-round opponent.

Speaking of British players, Wimbledon will be guaranteed at least one "local" in the second round as former British No.1 Anne Keothavong and wild card Naomi Broady meet in the first round. The winner could play Petra Kvitova, the exciting Czech prospect who battled her way to the 2010 semi-finals, in the second round. Svetlana Kuznetsova and Jelena Jankovic also feature in the lower quarter of the draw's bottom half.
2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone could have a handful to deal with when she takes on Jelena Dokic, no stranger to causing an upset at SW19, while 2010 Eastbourne winner Ekaterina Makarova against highly-touted American Christina McHale is certainly one to watch.

The in-form Daniela Hantuchova meets a qualifier, while fourth seed Victoria Azarenka, the highest seed in the third quarter, will have to get past Magdalena Rybarikova.Witty German Andrea Petkovic, talented youngster Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and shock 2010 quarter-finalist Kaia Kanepi are other seeds to watch out for.

The bottom half of the women's draw are scheduled to play their first-round matches on Monday, with the top half due to commence on Tuesday.
