Wednesday, October 3, 2007

To reach the quarterfinals at the Japan Open, Venus Williams had to dismiss yet another American, Vania King, 6-0, 6-4.

King, ranked 87th, took a 2-0 lead in the second set of the match at Ariake Colosseum, but Williams broke to go up 4-3. She won the match with a crosscourt forehand to the corner that King returned into the net.

Williams, No. 8 in the WTA rankings, will face the winner of the match between Alicia Molik and Aleksandra Wozniak in the quarterfinals of the $175,000 tournament.
