Sorry Tennis Fans, I Missed a Wild Card Player: Asha Rolle

Monday, August 27, 2007

There's very little information on this player, but I'll dig around and see what I can find. I was not even previously aware of her until tonight as she was shown about to close out the first set of her match against Tatiana Golovin of France. She is not listed on the WTA roster at all.

What I did find out though is that she's a 22-year old from Miami Shores, Florida and entered the main draw of the U. S. Open by way of a wild card. I understand that she also was entered into the main draw of the 2006 U. S. Open by way of a wild card.

Jamea Jackson Gets U.S. Open Wild Card

Friday, August 17, 2007

It's just an all around good tennis day for me today. James Blake beats Ferrero and now Jamea Jackson gets a wild card into the U.S. Open main draw. Brava!! I'm really happy to see my young sista get an opportunity to regain some of that shine that she created last year by closing out 2006 in the WTA top 50.

Blast that hip of hers, always something to slow you down. I hope that she's feeling well and able to put as much of her best game forward as possible. I like this young woman, she seems fearless.

Wimbledon Junior Champ Donald Young Receives Wild Card

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Wimbledon junior champion Donald Young and 6-foot-9 John Isner were among eight men granted wild cards for the U.S. Open by the U.S. Tennis Association on Wednesday.

Americans Alex Kuznetsov, Jesse Levine, Michael McClune, Waybe Odenik and Ryan Sweeting, along with Australia's Alun Jones, got spots in the main draw of the year's final Grand Slam tournament, which starts Aug. 27.

The 18-year-old Young is ranked No. 232 on the ATP Tour and won his first pro singles title this year on a minor-league circuit.

Isner recently rose from outside the top 400 to No. 192 in the rankings by reaching the final of his second career ATP tournament. He turned pro in May after leading Georgia to the NCAA tennis title.

Jones, who appeared in the movie "Wimbledon," is ranked a career-high 123rd. His wild card is part of a deal with Tennis Australia, which will give a wild card for the 2008 Australian Open to a player chosen by the USTA.

Donald Young Moving His Game Forward

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

Another rising young American, 2007 Wimbledon boys' junior singles champion Donald Young, has requested a wild card into the Pilot Pen. The wild card request has not been granted but, barring a flood of high-profile wild-card requests, it is likely that the tournament will give Young one of three remaining wild cards.
